Join us in exploring our wonderful trails

The majority of the Cycle Salisbury social rides happen off-road, on the trails of the Little Para River Trail, Dry Creek Trail and Cobbler Creek. They are best suited to hybrid bikes or mountain bikes. We are continually developing our trail network and currently have some 103km of trails!

We have the occasional rides for all types of bikes. Check the ride details (including ride code - speed and whether there are hills or not) and distance to see that the ride is suitable for you.

Hot weather policy

Please note that any of our advertised rides will be cancelled if the forecast temperature is 35 degrees or above. To avoid any confusion, we use the forecast for Adelaide issued by the Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) at approximately 4pm on the day before any ride. This forecast is used by the TV networks. Please either watch any of the TV networks news bulletins the night before any ride or check the BOM website.

Where to ride

The City of Salisbury is full of riding and walking opportunities. Read more about our trail information here.

The Little Para Trail

The Little Para Trail is the most significant trail in the City of Salisbury. It takes riders on a mainly flat 10km trail (apart from a short on-road detour at Porter Street) from Carisbrooke Park (next to Main North Road) to Port Wakefield Road. There’s an opportunity to follow the trail under Main North Road and up the hill above the Old Spot Hotel for 1.4km before becoming private property. There’s now an all-weather (bitumen) surface option for walkers and riders from Parabanks in Salisbury, to under Port Wakefield Road at Bolivar, and west of Port Wakefield Road alongside the White Road Wetlands and around Globe Derby Park, linking with the Dry Creek Trail.

  • Watch a video of the Little Para River Trail, ‘the other linear park’, from RAA.
  • Download the Little Para Trails 2013 brochure and map.

Dry Creek

The Dry Creek Trail runs through the City of Salisbury from Down Drive at Valley View, through Walkley Heights, Pooraka and Mawson Lakes to Globe Derby. There are off road crossings at Briens Road, Main North Road and Port Wakefield Road, and the railway line at Mawson Lakes. There is also a short on-road section at Pratt Avenue, Pooraka. The Dry Creek Trail is now connected to the Little Para River Trail behind Globe Derby.

Please note that the cycling/pedestrian underpass at Port Wakefield Road/Globe Derby is affected by tides.

A new underpass (dry weather only) has been constructed under Montague and Main North Road, Pooraka allowing for a continuation along the trail rather than negotiating two road crossings.

Cobbler Creek

There are multiple trails within Cobbler Creek Recreation Park and the Department of Environment & Heritage have recently upgraded the trails for off-road cycle use. Within the City of Salisbury the Cobbler Creek trail runs from Salisbury Heights within the Cobbler Creek corridor, just below Bridge Road to Main North Road. Riders can follow trails within the Cobbler Creek Conservation Park that take you to roads within Salisbury Heights heading north, and link into the Little Para Trail.

Tapa Marinthi Yala

The Tapa Martinthi Yala Shared Use Path follows the Northern Connector motorway, between The Northern Expressway (from Gawler) in the north to the South Rd, Port River Expressway Interchange in the south. (see maps below)

There is a connecting path along Port Wakefield Rd at the Bolivar interchange between the Northern and Southern sections.

This is a significant piece of shared-use infrastructure, offering both walkers and cyclists a long-distance option that is safe for active transport users with key destinations at both ends. The Tapa Martinthi Yala Shared Use Path path connects the new Port River Bikeway and the Stuart O’Grady Bikeway, creating around 43km of continuous paths from Gawler to Port Adelaide. It also links to the Gawler Greenway (and the City) Salisbury's trails, The Little Para River Trail at Bolivar and The Dry Creek Trail at Globe Derby link into the Tapa Marinthi Yala creating great riding opportunities, including destination rides to Port Adelaide (south) and Gawler (North).

Reserves and parks

There are a number of reserves and parks within the City of Salisbury that provides some great opportunities for cycling, particularly for novice riders. Kaurna Park, across from the Springbank Waters shopping centre on Waterloo Cnr Rd at Burton has a 3km loop and trails cutting through it. Unity Park (South Tce, Pooraka) has various trails running through it that include the bituminised levels – City Bikeway from South Tce, Pooraka to Grand Junction Rd (Northfield). There are also connecting Reserves with trails between Bolivar Rd, Paralowie and the Little Para Trail at Salisbury Downs (road crossings at Fairbanks Dr and Whites Rd).

Feedback from Salisbury social rides participants

"You have no idea how much being a part of the Cycle Salisbury Social Rides has meant to me – it has changed my life and wellbeing in so many ways and I can’t wait for more involvement in 2015. I have been a proud resident of Salisbury for 25 years, yet in the last 6 months or so I have experienced the greatest benefits of our area, the local parks, bike/walking trails, gym equipment and so much more. Thank you to Salisbury Council and all those involved in this program for providing the most fun way of enjoying the outdoors, exercise and good friendships – all whilst being in my own ‘backyard". Simone, Paralowie (December 2014)

"Becoming involved with the Cycle Salisbury Social Rides has given me the confidence to get back on the Bike. In doing so I am riding the 40 Kms for Gear Up Girl and raising Money for Breast Cancer. What a great lot of Gals and Guys I have met along with the many bike trails in Salisbury." Kathie

"Get on that Bike of yours and enjoy the great outdoors - ride with Cycle Salisbury!" John and Val

"Cycle Salisbury Social Rides is a great way to break down social isolation, to get out and about, and meet local people while keeping fit at the same time". Annette
