Council undertakes regular water quality monitoring and algal treatment of the lakes in Mawson Lakes. Latest water samples show increasing levels of blue-green algae in Shearwater Lake. As a precaution, avoid contact with the water as this can cause irritation to the skin, eyes, ears, nose and mouth. Pets should be kept out of the water as they can also be affected, and dogs can ingest high concentrations from grooming their coat after contact.

Shearwater Lake offers picnic areas, BBQ facilities, play equipment and access to walking and bike paths.
