Thin Ice VR Experience now open

Embark on an extraordinary journey into the icy depths of history with the Thin Ice VR Experience! Running from Wednesday 12 February to Friday 14 March, this immersive virtual reality event recreates Sir Ernest Shackleton’s heroic Antarctic expedition while highlighting the modern-day impacts of climate change on the world around us.

This free event runs Monday to Friday with two daily sessions available.

Session 1: open from 10am to 12pm

Session 2: open from 2pm to 4pm

The duration of the VR experience runs for 23 minutes. Visitors can drop in any time during the 2-hour sessions to take part.

This experience is best suited to people 12 years and older.

While bookings are not essential and drop-ins are welcome on the day, visitors are encouraged to register via Eventbrite to help gauge attendance numbers and ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone.

For groups of 10 or more, please coordinate your visit in advance by contacting arts@salisbury.sa.gov.au.

Please also remember to treat the equipment and staff with respect to ensure a positive experience for everyone.

Saturday session - 1 March

For those unable to attend during the week, the Thin Ice VR Experience will also be available for a special Saturday session on 1 March, open all day from 10am to 3pm. Don’t miss this one-day weekend opportunity! No bookings required for this session, just drop in to the Salisbury Community Hub any time from 10am to 3pm.

Special event with Tim Jarvis AM

The City of Salisbury is hosting a special event with Tim Jarvis AM on Wednesday 12 March from 5pm – 7pm at the Salisbury Community Hub.

Tim, environmental scientist, author, adventurer, 2024 SA Australian of the Year, is the man who recreated Sir Ernest Shackleton’s famous Antarctica expedition.
