Improving school zone safety with new speed monitoring pilot
The City of Salisbury is introducing a School Zone Traffic Safety Program to help improve road safety and create safer environments for our students. As part of this initiative, a six-month pilot program will trial two pole-mounted Speed Indication Units at various school zones across the city.
This approach has been successful in other council areas, where it has helped promote safer driving by clearly displaying drivers' current speeds. The units are designed solely to monitor speed and do not collect personal data or issue fines.
After six months, the pilot will be reviewed to assess its effectiveness in reducing speeds and determining whether the units should be implemented permanently in school zones.
The City of Salisbury is committed to keeping our young people safe and ensuring our school zones remain secure, creating peace of mind for parents and the broader community.
