Brand new Salisbury Aquatic Centre open to the community

The highly anticipated Salisbury Aquatic Centre officially opened its doors to the community on Monday 24 June at 5:30am.

The Centre opened with its year-round indoor features including a Health Club, 4-lane lap pool, program pool, and café offering barista coffee and healthy food options.

From October, summer season visitors will be able to enjoy the 8-lane, 50-metre outdoor pool with a shaded area, a large splash pad and water play area complete with tipping bucket and three junior water slides, a 10-metre high triple waterslide tower, and a lawned picnic area and outdoor kiosk.

Mayor Gillian Aldridge OAM has shared her excitement for the Centre opening, and her intentions for the new facility.

The City of Salisbury is thrilled to unveil the brand-new Salisbury Aquatic Centre. With modern features catering to everyone, it stands as a symbol of progress, inclusivity, and vitality.

The old Salisbury Swimming Pool was a cornerstone of the City. It is Council’s wish for the Salisbury Aquatic Centre to honour the legendary history of the location and serve the families of our community for generations.

Mayor Gillian Aldridge OAM

The Honourable Zoe Bettison MP, Minister for Tourism and Multicultural Affairs and Member for Ramsay, echoed this sentiment, saying, ‘this has been one of the most significant projects undertaken by the City of Salisbury and a project that a lot of people in the north are excited about.

‘It has been a journey to get to this moment and the result is absolutely rewarding. The 10-metre-high water slide tower, the kids’ waterpark, the lap pools, the health club – all contributing to the local community’s wellbeing are going to make the Salisbury Aquatic Centre a must-visit destination for all!’

The Centre was intentionally designed with convenient and inclusive features to suit a range of accessibility requirements and meet the needs of the City’s diverse community. These include heating and access ramps in all pools, secure locker storage, a hearing loop for visitors with hearing aids, and ample bathroom facilities, including a family change room and Changing Places.

Sustainable measures have also been implemented in the design, including solar panels, LED lighting, water efficient toilets and showers, an all-electric kitchen facility, and lawns irrigated with Council’s own Salisbury Water.

The $30 million Centre, built by Mossop Construction + Interiors, was co-funded by the City of Salisbury and the Government of South Australia’s Local Government

Infrastructure Partnership Program, inclusive of $1.5M from the Australian Government Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program for entrance road and car park development. The on-site construction lasted approximately 20 months, with an average of 673 skilled workers on site monthly.

Director of Mossop Construction + Interiors, Grant Mossop, said of the project, ‘Mossop takes great pride in delivering civic projects that provide great support and service to the whole community.

‘We can’t wait to see a Centre full in the peak of summer, engaging in the full experience of the pools, the triple slides and aquatic play zone, and the joy and fun that comes with a day at the pool and the success of young kids learning how to swim.’

The Centre will be run by expert leisure facility management company, BlueFit, who have opened enrolments to their Learn to Swim program on the Salisbury Aquatic Centre website.

Foundation Memberships are also available online, offering unlimited access to the Centre’s Health Club and aquatic facilities, including group fitness classes and functional training.

BlueFit General Manager, Brett McEwin, says that the local team have been looking forward to delivering ‘a diverse range of health, fitness and aquatic programs, and are excited by the opportunity to position the Salisbury Aquatic Centre as the premier leisure facility in the City of Salisbury.’
