Last Wednesday night, 24 May, the Planning Institute of Australia (PIA) held the 2023 Planning Congress and announced the winners for the National Awards for Planning Excellence.

In recognition of its ‘Cohesive Salisbury’ strategies, the City of Salisbury won the Community Wellbeing & Diversity Award.

Salisbury has had a decades-long diversity and inclusion policy and strategy, and this award acknowledges the city’s outstanding work in improving access to social infrastructure in Salisbury, supporting cohesion, safety and diversity.

This is another proud achievement for Salisbury. I am so pleased that our city is being recognised for consulting and engaging with Salisbury’s residents in a meaningful way. We are an adaptive city where diverse community views are truly included and valued

Mayor Gillian Aldridge OAM

The City of Salisbury’s social planning strategies integrate consultation into organisational processes and maintain active and ongoing conversations with the community ensuring that their social planning strategies lead the way to create a thriving and connected city.

The PIA lauded the City of Salisbury as a very worthy winner and recommended its suite of strategies be a template for all planners and social strategists.
