Increased levels of blue-green algae in the main lake in Mawson Lakes
Update 4 April 2025.
We are happy to inform the community that the water quality in Sir Douglas Mawson Lake has returned to normal, and the precautionary measures have now been lifted.
Thank you for your patience.
Council undertakes regular water quality monitoring and algal treatment of the lakes in Mawson Lakes. Latest water samples show increasing levels of blue-green algae in Sir Douglas Mawson Lake (main lake). As a precaution, avoid contact with the water as this can cause irritation to the skin, eyes, ears, nose and mouth. Pets should be kept out of the water as they can also be affected, and dogs can ingest high concentrations from grooming their coat after contact.
